Programs We Support
The following programs are just a sample of what is offered by the NUITF from the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA). Most of these programs can be registered with the Department Of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, if that is of interest.
Apprentice Lineman
The apprentice lineman program is the oldest program offered by the NUITF from the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA) , which was founded in 1941. Over the years, the industry has evolved and so has the work. Many work methods that exist today were not even a thought 50+ years ago. Through effort and communication with the industry, many of the lessons in this program have components right out of the OSHA Transmission and Distribution Partnership Program. The continual updating of curriculum and training aids to stay compliant with industry standards positions this program as one that all others are measured against.
Substation Technician
Telecommunication Lineman
Electrician
- Power Plant
- Water & Wastewater Plant
- Water and Wastewater Distribution Systems
The etA’s “Inside Wireman” program is a four or five-year training program. We do not believe or assert any of NUITF’s customers would be interested in the entire program, but it is possible. One of the great things about the offerings through the NUITF is the ability to pick and choose what applies to your specific needs. We would invite you to contact us to see what type of training program we could build from this program to solve your training challenges.
Cable Splicing
This is a shorter program but has huge upside potential. Through industry partnerships, national certification is achievable through the National Cable Splicing Certification Board, Inc. (NCSCB) and the user can be placed on the national registry. We work with the etA to provide the curriculum and the NCSCB to provide certification. Reach out to us to learn more!

Installer/Tech
The Installer Technician installs the network of low-voltage cabling that is used for video, voice & data, or other low-voltage signaling.
While most installations are in buildings that are partially or fully enclosed to protect from sun, wind, and rain, these installations often occur before air conditioning, heat, or permanent light fixtures have been installed in the buildings.
Backbone voice and data cables are routed between the entrance facility, where communications signals enter a building, to equipment and telephone rooms. Voice and data horizontal cables are routed between telephone or equipment rooms and individual workstations throughout the building.
Equipment rooms often contain energized equipment such as hubs, file servers, or telephone switches. These devices are configured and connected to the communications network that serves the building and must not be interrupted.
The Installer Technician installs voice and data outlets at workstations. In addition, they install punch-down blocks and cross-connects in telephone rooms. These may be wall-mounted or rack-mounted and must be grouped and identified according to specific installation standards. Whether the work is in new construction or in existing office or manufacturing space, the NUITF craftsperson takes pride in the work he or she can perform.

In Development
Here at the NUITF, we recognize that training has evolved over the years and will continue to do so. For those wishing to be on the leading edge, constant attention must be paid to the industry to recognize emerging technologies and learner tendencies. For our part, we are moving ahead in recognition of some areas where we feel adequate programs were lacking, or in new areas that present opportunities. Here are some of the areas we are currently developing programs or exploring future topics.
- Natural Gas Utility Worker Training Program
- Overhead Catenary System Training Program
- Electric Meter Training Program
- Drone Pilot License Training Program
- Utility Leadership Training Program
- Nuclear Industry Classifications; Radiation Protection
